About the Support Association

The Support Association of Gymnasium Neufreimann (Förderverein des Gymnasiums Neufreimann e.V.) was founded in 2025 and is a registered non-profit association under German law. We support both curricular and extracurricular activities at our school.

We are committed to promoting education, arts, and culture at Gymnasium Neufreimann.

As a growing secondary school in a modern new building, many small but meaningful opportunities arise where additional support can truly make a difference.

Through the contributions of our members, we implement numerous projects each year — from acquiring modern teaching materials and supporting school events to providing financial assistance for students in need to participate in school trips.

An overview of current and completed initiatives can be found on our projects page. We also share updates and insights into our work regularly on LinkedIn.

The Board

The board of the support association consists of dedicated parents and supporters who volunteer their time to serve the needs of our students.

School Support Associations – Tasks and Significance

School Support Associations and Their Role in Education

What Is a School Support Association?

A school support association (Förderverein) is a registered non-profit organization that supports a school both financially and through civic engagement. It supplements public funding and enables projects, acquisitions, or initiatives that go beyond the regular school budget.

Support associations are typically driven by parents, teachers, alumni, and other supporters. They operate on a volunteer basis and pursue exclusively charitable purposes.

Tasks of a School Support Association

Typical tasks of a support association include:

  • Funding additional learning and teaching materials
  • Supporting excursions and school trips
  • Promoting cultural, musical, or sports projects
  • Co-financing technical equipment
  • Supporting socially disadvantaged students
  • Implementing prevention or media literacy projects

The specific scope of activities depends on the needs of the respective school and is defined in the association's statute .

Non-Profit Status and Transparency

Support associations are typically recognized as non-profit organizations. This means:

  • Funds may only be used for purposes defined in the statute
  • There is an obligation for proper bookkeeping
  • Donations are tax-deductible
  • The board works on a volunteer basis

Transparency, proper use of funds, and accountability are core principles of non-profit association work.

The Importance of Support Associations in Education

General Significance

Support associations make an important contribution to the further development of educational offerings. They enable additional pedagogical, cultural, and social projects that go beyond basic public funding, thereby creating expanded opportunities for schools.

Particularly in times of increasing demands for digital infrastructure, media literacy, prevention, and individual support, support associations help sustainably strengthen educational quality. They connect parents, schools, and the school community, fostering civic engagement.

Support associations are thus an expression of civic responsibility in the field of education.

Significance for Schools in Development

For newly founded or developing schools, the role of a support association is often of particular significance. During the development phase, additional needs frequently arise — for example in equipment, project development, or the establishment of school traditions.

A support association can provide flexible support and set impulses where public structures are naturally still growing. It helps to strengthen educational offerings early on, enable new initiatives, and help shape the identity of the school community.

Particularly during a phase of structural development, volunteer engagement offers the opportunity to actively shape the school environment and create sustainable foundations for the future.

Collaboration with School and Parent Council

The support association works in close partnership with the school administration and the parent council , while remaining organizationally and legally independent.

While the parent council represents the interests of parents and fosters exchange between the parent body and the school, the support association focuses on the financial support of larger or long-term projects as well as additional educational impulses.

This collaborative partnership creates clear roles and transparent responsibilities: The school contributes pedagogical ideas and professional requirements, the parent council provides feedback and networking, and the support association creates the financial and structural conditions for implementation.

In this way, all parties share responsibility for high-quality, future-oriented education.

Corporate Partnerships and Education Cooperations

In addition to support from members and private donations, partnerships with businesses play an increasingly important role. Through education partnerships, companies can take on social responsibility and specifically fund educational projects.

Such partnerships not only strengthen the financial basis of school initiatives but also create long-term connections between schools, businesses, and regional development.

For businesses, working with a non-profit support association provides a clearly structured and transparent framework for social engagement in education. Funds are used for designated purposes and on the basis of the association's statute.
